I would like to mention two current problems: First, arbitrarily varying channels. It is now known that for the AVC the capacity can be attained by list decoding with fixed size. Related problems are to find the minimal size of such lists and to construct list codes. For example, to find some kind of Viterbi decoding. Also the investigation of the probability of error is of importance here. A second problem is to find algo- rithms similar to Lempel-Ziv's in order to encode images.
