It is very difficult and unrewarding to predict the future of science and I shall not do that. I can only say that during the last ten years new directions arose in information theory such as the identification problem and the use of algebraic geometry that has created a new perspective in coding theory. I think our science has a good future. We have now a number of good journals and I hope this will continue. The future depends on the work of a new younger gen- eration.
