A joint postdoc position at Arizona State University, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and the US Army Research Laboratory in the area of secure and authentic communications, is available immediately. The successful candidate will be working with the research groups of Prof. Oliver Kosut and Prof. Joerg Kliewer in collaboration with the US Army Research Laboratory.

One Post-doc and two PhD positions are available to investigate the use of nonstochastic and zero-error information theory in filtering, control and causal inference problems with deterministic disturbances or unknown noise distributions. These positions are based in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Melbourne, Australia.

This workshop brings together experts from industry and academia to discuss the challenges and solutions for the problem of multiple-access in wireless communication and Internet-of-Things.

Jimmy Soni and Rob Goodman have written a book about Claude Shannon titled A Mind at Play: How Claude Shannon Invented the Information Age. The book made its debut this week and is available everywhere books are sold. Kindle and audiobook versions are available as well.

The Information Theory Society Paper Award is given annually for an outstanding publication in the fields of interest to the Society appearing anywhere during the preceding four calendar years.

Gottfried Ungerboeck will receive the 2018 Claude E. Shannon Award and deliver the 2018 Shannon Lecture at ISIT 2018. The award was announced at the ISIT 2017 Banquet in Aachen.

Three papers were selected to be awarded the 2017 Jack Keil Wolf ISIT Student Paper Award.

The Aaron D. Wyner Distinguished Service Award, formerly known as IT Society Distinguished Service Award, honors an individual who has shown outstanding leadership in, and provided long-standing, exceptional service to, the Information Theory community. The award was announced at the ISIT Awards Session in Aachen, Germany.

A post doctoral scholar position is available in The Electrical Engineering Department, School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, at the Pennsylvania State University, University Park Campus, under the direction of Prof. Aylin Yener.

The IEEE Journal on Selected Topics in Signal Processing will publish an Special Issue on Information-Theoretic Methods in Data Acquisition, Analysis, and Processing. Manuscripts are due December 1, 2017.

The Padovani Lecture is held annually at the North American School of Information Theory. The Lecturer is selected by the Membership and Chapters Committee.

Although announced at ISIT 2016, the 2017 Shannon Award is given at ISIT 2017, where Prof. David Tse of Stanford University will deliver the Shannon Award Lecture.

The IT Society will present these awards at the annual Awards Banquet at ISIT in Aachen on Wednesday, 28 June, 2017.
