Biography

I was born in Newcastle , Australia in 1970. At the University of Newcastle I received the Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and the Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Engineering in 1992 and 1993 respectively, and received the University Medal in Computer Engineering upon graduation. I then moved to the University of Melbourne , Australia where I received a Masters degree in 1996 and the Ph.D. degree in 1998 both in Electrical Engineering and was awarded the Chancellor's Prize for Excellence in the Ph.D. Thesis. From March 1998 to June 1999 I was a Postoctoral Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley . Upon returning to Australia I took up a position as Lecturer at the University of Sydney where I stayed for two years. Since July 2001, I have been with the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Melbourne, where I am now a Professor. My research interests are in communications theory and statistical signal processing with current focus on wireless communications networks.
