Job description

The Communication System Group, Chalmers University of Technology (Gothenburg, Sweden) is involved in several initiatives, both of theoretical and of more applied nature, aimed at the design of next-generation wireless communication systems.  These include: (i) the characterization of the trade-off between latency, reliability, and throughput in the transmission of digital information over wireless channels; (ii) the design of wireless links operating in the mm-wave part of the spectrum and making use of low-precision hardware; (iii) the development of next generation low-latency ultra-reliable communications for machine-type applications.  The candidate is expected to use tools from information theory, communication theory, and applied mathematics to address the challenges listed above from a fundamental perspective.
Working together with our industrial partners, the candidate will also translate these theoretical findings into actual guidelines for system design.

Major responsibilities


The candidate will join the research group of Prof. Giuseppe Durisi, will perform research independently, but also take active part in the supervision of master and PhD students. Furthermore, the candidate will be responsible for communicating the research activities performed by the group within the above-mentioned areas to our academic and industrial partners, in the form of both scientific publications and project deliverables.  The position includes also teaching at undergraduate and Master level to a certain extent.

Position summary


Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).

Qualification

You must have a PhD degree in electrical engineering or in a related field and have an excellent publication record in top IEEE journals. Experience with 5G technologies (e.g, machine-type communication, mm-wave, massive MIMO) and with industry-university collaborative projects is advantageous. The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not required but may be advantageous. Swedish language courses are offered within the group.
